VIETNAM | SALT FIELDS
The Hon Koi salt fields are to be found North of Nha Trang in central Vietnam where mounds of salt are manually harvested from shallow salt pans. After ten days, the water has evaporated & in the early hours of the morning, the men using long handled poles, scrape the salt into pyramid shapes ready for collection by the women who create 'salt mountains' in readiness for shipping. I took this series of photographs over twenty years ago & recently returned to see what had changed. Nowadays, the 'carrying pole' or YOKE has been relics with wheel barrows & the workers wear uniforms.
